For several weeks it has been no secret Inter Milan have been courting Manchester United captain and center back Nemanja Vidic. With Vidic (32) declaring he would not sign a new contract beyond his current deal expiring in June, a queue of clubs from Serie A have lined up to sign the former Champions League winner.
Last week it was revealed Inter Milan had stolen a march on the other Serie A clubs as Vidic was in Serbia for a medical. According to reports from Goal and The Independent, Inter have won the fight to sign the player. The contract is reportedly worth £2.5 million and is for a duration of two years - a year more than Manchester United were willing to offer.
Inter Milan are currently 11 points off the final Champions League place in Serie A as they reside in 5th place. They have also conceded 28 goals in only 24 Serie A games. Last season Inter failed to qualify for Europe after a disappointing 9th placed finish.
Assuming Inter finish 5th, they will qualify for the Europa League next season and will need all the depth in their squad possible. They currently line up in 3-5-1-1 formation and with Walter Samuel (35) coming to the end of this career and others not on Vidic's level, there is certainly space for Vidic to come in and improve the team as Inter look to claw their way back to the summit of Serie A and European football.
