Reporters from Goal.com have revealed Manchester United are readying themselves for a £20 million bid for highly rated left back Luke Shaw.
According to them, negotiations had begun in January, although the player was understood to have been happy with the situation at Southampton and subsequently delayed any decision making until the summer.
£20 million for an 18 year old left back may seem hefty, but then Manchester United have promised manager David Moyes a transfer kitty of £150 million, so money is not exactly scarce at Old Trafford.
Furthermore, a move for Luke Shaw, would be a move to secure the future. With Nemanja Vidic set to leave by the end of the season and with Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand set to follow, the backbone of the United team that was so wildly successful since 2006 is going to be ripped apart. Bringing in Luke Shaw ensures United have new and enthused players coming into the team with something to prove.
