Liverpool are not resting on their laurels after an impressive season. According to reports they are winning the battle to sign Benfica playmaker Nicolas Gaitan for a pricey £20 million.
This comes after Liverpool's supposed main target Adam Lallana hinted his future resided with Southampton, not a move away from the south-coast club.
They are also interested in out of favour winger Cristian Tello. This falls in line with their attempts to capture Ukrainian starlet Yevhen Konoplyanka and Tello might be seen as an alternative if Dnipro (Konoplyanka's club) continues to make it difficult for Liverpool to sign him.
Other rumours regarding Liverpool concern their defensive issues. Daniel Agger is reportedly the subject of Barcelona interest; it is hard to imagine Liverpool will put up a concerted fight considering his form has been sketchy for a few seasons, being the most experienced (excluding Toure) out of all the Liverpool defenders, Liverpool will have to replace him and they have targeted former wonderkid Man City defender Micah Richards and Cardiff City's Steven Caulker.
Caulker has reportedly had a clause in his contract triggered after Cardiff's relegation. The fact he has been involved in a relegation campaign will rightfully concern Liverpool fans but he has been seen as a shining light in Cardiff's dark season. Add in two good seasons at Swansea and Tottenham it is easy to see why he is being courted. They face competition from Southampton.
