Leicester City have completed one of the first deals ready in place for the new season by snapping up Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Ben Hamer.
The 26 year old has been signed on a bosman, his contract was due to expire and given Leicester's lure of Premier League football following their promotion as Championship champions, plus the fact Charlton narrowly survived to League 1, it was an opportunity worth taking.
For Hamer it is a journey back to where he first started at Reading. Back then he was an academy graduate and never featured for the Royals when they were in the Premier League. Instead, Hamer was sent down the leagues on a series of loans until he made his bed at Charlton in 2011.
He made 121 appearances for the Addicks and his high point came in the 2011/12 season where he was promoted into the Championship via being champions of League 1.
