According to Goal, Arsenal have targeted Columbian goalkeeper David Ospina as well as Atletico Madrid right back Javi Manquillo. The reasoning behind the pursual of Ospina is to provide competition for Wojciech Szczesny who despite being rated as one of the Premier League's best, is prone to the odd clanger. During his time at Arsenal he has hardly had anyone providing a threat to his position, henceforth his mistake went unchecked. At £3 million, Ospina is great value for money as someone who could become a number 1 or as someone who will warm the bench.
As for Javi Manquillo, the Atletico Madrid youngster failed to usurp Juanfran from the starting lineup. With Diego Simeone very much against squad rotation, a loan to move to England seems a great way for Manquillo to gain 1st team experience. Although Arsenal still expect to sign Debuchy from Newcastle, Premier League teams often play more games than any other league in Europe, therefore squad rotation is more pertinent.
