It has been revealed by Goal that less than satisfactory reports from Arsenal's scouting staff have been enough to persuade Arsene Wenger to give Atletico Madrid's star striker Diego Costa a wide birth.
According to the report, Arsenal had twice sent their scouts to see Diego Costa in the flesh, once in a Copa Del Rey match against Sant Andreu and the other against Levante in La Liga.
Costa scored twice in the game against Levante as Atletico won 3-2 and following his latest strike against Rayo Valladolid on Saturday, Costa now has 26 goals in 32 appearances in all competitions - more goals than Arsenal's two highest goalscorers: Giroud and Ramsey combined (23).
Yet despite this he has been written off as unsuitable to Arsenal's style of playing due to his perceived lack of mobility.
With Diego Costa also garnering attention from Chelsea, as well as having to issue Costa with a new contract in August due to Liverpool meeting his previous £22 million release clause - a figure now at £30 million - Atletico will be glad at least one less team will be in for the in-demand striker.
As for Arsenal, the search for a world class striker goes on.
