Cristiano Ronaldo has been announced as the 2014 FIFA Ballon d'Or winner. The win is his second in a row and third altogether, putting him one behind his arch-nemesis and on equal terms with legends such as Ronaldo (Brazil), Zinedine Zidane and Michel Platini.
In his teary speech, Ronaldo stated:
"I would like to thank all of those who voted for me, my president, my coach and Real Madrid. It has been an unforgettable year. To win this trophy at the end of it is something incredibly unique.
"I want to continue to work as I have so far, to try and and win more titles, for my mother, for my father, for my son. To all the Portuguese people out there: I never thought that I would take this trophy back on three occasions. I want to become one of the greatest players of all time."
FIFA have also released the share of the vote and it was completely dominated by Ronaldo, with Messi narrowly shading Neuer.
Cristiano Ronaldo: 37.66%
Lionel Messi: 15.76%
Manuel Neuer: 15.72%.
