It has just been revealed Rio Ferdinand will leave Manchester United after he was not offered a new contract. The decision by Manchester United brings to an end Ferdinand's 12 year stay at the club where he made 455 appearances, fulfilled his potential as one of the best defenders in the world, winning several trophies and becoming a legend in his own right.
Nonetheless, with Ferdinand only making 23 appearances in all competitions this season (the second least he has made in his entire career) and with his performances being a shadow of what they once were, the decision makes sense to Manchester United on a football level.
It is understood Ferdinand wishes to carry on playing and despite his age, injuries and wavering form, he would be a great help to a Premier League team needing experience from a man who has won everything there is to win on the club scene.
As always the MLS could prove an attractive option to Ferdinand if he wanted to maintain his high wages.
