From heavyweights duking it out at the top, to featherweights slap fighting each other for the final position in the top four – if Liverpool's and Arsenal's fall from grace could be captured, that is an ample description. Arsene Wenger might have been booed venomously in the aftermath of the Stoke debacle, but generally speaking, Arsenal have had the better season. A large part of that is Alexis Sanchez – who Liverpool lost out on in a tug of war. Wouldn't it be just like Liverpool if Sanchez scored the winning goal?
Team sheets below:
Liverpool 64% - 36% Arsenal
Liverpool 27 - 5 Arsenal
Shots on Target
Liverpool 10 - 2 Arsenal
Liverpool 10 - 6 Arsenal
Liverpool 6 - 14 Arsenal
90+9 min: Michael Oliver blows for the end of a pulsating game. Liverpool have drawn 2-2 with Arsenal and it is a result that does neither side any favours. In many ways the draw is a reflection of how poor btih teams are: Liverpool should have thrashed Arsenal, such was there dominance. Likewise, Arsenal should have taken advantage of Liverpool's wastefulness and sending off. Both are a million miles away from Chelsea and Manchester City.
90+7 min: GOAL! Martin Skrtel's bullet header from Adam Lallana's corner gives Liverpool a well deserved equaliser.
90+2 min: RED CARD! Fabio Borini who came on just 10 minutes ago has been sent off for a second yellow. His first was for dissent on a throw-in incorrectly given to Arsenal; the second was for a high boot on Santi Cazorla.
90th min: The assistant referee has signaled for 9 minutes injury time.
87th min: After managing to right himself after a slip, Gerrard plays in Borini on the right extreme of the box. The striker has a shot but it is well blocked by the keeper and goes out for a corner. Had he fired the ball across the goal, Lambert was on hand for a tap-in.
85th min: Sterling does well to keep his composure after a failed pass and manages to cross for Borini who headers straight at Szczesny.
84th min: From the left flank, Lallana comes inside and cuts the Arsenal defence with a through ball for Coutinho who wraps a left foot shot towards the side-netting.
75th min: Liverpool knocking on the door but they cannot blow it down. Sterling and Lallana work out another opportunity for Coutinho who again fluffs his shot on the edge of the box.
74th min: Gerrard picks out Henderson on the right who find Lucas on the edge of the box. His shot has Szczesny scrambling, but it is just off target. Had the shot been on target, it was going in.
65th min: Immediately after the goal is scored, Liverpool should have scored an equaliser through Coutinho, he fluffs his shot on the edge of the penalty area, however.
64th min: GOAL! Arsenal take the lead via Giroud. Kieran Gibbs ran down the left and crossed to Giroud who wonderfully finds Sanchez on the edge of the left hand side of the box. Sanchez knocks it back to Giroud who is placed above the penalty spot and slams the ball into the net. Sumptuous play by Arsenal and terrible defending by Liverpool gives the visitors the lead.
61st min: Sterling uses his arm to tip it past Szczesny and cross for Gerrard who heads over the bar.
59th min: Markovic storms down the Arsenal box after being released by Coutinho. The cut-back is behind everyone but Lucas who skies over the bar - although he protests to no avail his shot took a deflection.
57th min: After six minutes Skrtel is up on his feet, bandaged up and raring to go. I wonder how many of those six will be added on at the end?
51st min: OUCH! Giroud wrestles Skrtel to the ground then grazes Skrtel's head with his studs for good measure. I am sure it was accidental but that will be of no comfort to Skrtel who is writhing on the floor.
47+2 min: Michael Oliver blows for the end of the 1st half. Here are the stats of a Liverpool dominated half:
Liverpool 64% - 36% Arsenal
Liverpool 9 - 2 Arsenal
Shots on Target
Liverpool 3 - 1 Arsenal
Liverpool 3 - 2 Arsenal
Liverpool 3 - 9 Arsenal
45+1 min: GOAL! Liverpool are in desperate need of defenders who can defend. A poor free kick is kept alive by direct-less headers by Arsenal players. However, the key is that they keep the ball alive and keep edging closer to the Liverpool goal until Debuchy out-jumps Skrtel and the ball goes into the net.
44th min: GOAL! At long last Liverpool's pressure pays off. Henderson gives the ball to Coutinho who dribbles into the Arsenal box and strikes a shot off the post and into the net. 1-0 Liverpool.
43rd min: Flamini is a lucky man. Already on a yellow, he fouls Lallana by mauling him to the ground. Michael Oliver gives Flamini a warning and a stern telling off.
41st min: Hand ball? Liverpool certainly think so. On the counter, Chambers halts Sterling's and Liverpool's progress with his hand, Michael Oliver plays on, however.
38th min: Raheem Sterling coming in from the right plays in a through ball for Markovic coming in from the left. The pass is somewhat behind Markovic who has to compensate by bending backwards when shooting. As you can guess by reading this, the ball sailed over the bar.
34th min: Lallana's pass is cut out poorly by Chambers and Gerrard redirects the ball to Markovic. The speedy winger is through on goal but his shot is blocked and out for a corner.
29th min: Lallana passes to Coutinho who decides the have a shot from 25 yards, though his shot is comfortably saved.
27th min: Markovic drifts in from the left and scoops the ball over the Arsenal defence to find Sterling's run, unfortunately the ball is cleared in the nick of time.
25th min: Kudos to Arsenal! At this stage last season Arsenal were down four nil, today they are level pegging. They are being dominated in the proceedings, however. Liverpool have had 5 shots to Arsenal's 1; and 71% possession to Arsenal's 29%.
18th min: Lazar Markovic and Lallana are proving to be a good combination. This time moving towards the right right from the centre of the pitch, Markovic played in Lallana but he dithered and allowed an Arsenal player to block his shot inside the box.
13th min: Flamini is the first man in the book for a rather bad foul.
11th min: A little give and go between Lallana and Markovic ends with the Englishman turning inside the box and firing a left footed shot over the bar. All in all he never looked like scoring, although the ease Liverpool got into the box is rather worrying.
6th min: Lucas Leiva brings down Kieran Gibbs on the left flank as the Arsenal man looked to make a run.
1st min: Liverpool have started really brightly. Philippe Coutinho broke free from the Arsenal defence from the middle of the park and was bearing down on goal before Mertesacker brought him down outside the box. Steven Gerrard took the free-kick but is was rather poor.
