Liverpool defeated Swansea earlier in the season in a tight Capital One Cup fixture. The Reds will hope for the same again as they attempt to claw their way back into the top four picture. As for Swansea, they will want to upset their former manager even further with a positive result and create space between their more illustrious opponents.
83rd min: Mario Balotelli replaces Raheem Sterling. Sterling was rather lucky the referee failed to see his slap on Fernandez.
76th min: Liverpool make their first substitution of the day and it is Adam Lallana. He will not get his hat-trick as Lazar Markovic replaces him but he will get a standing ovation.
69th min: GOAL! Game over now! Henderson takes the corner and Shelvey flicks the ball into his former club's net for an own goal.
67th min: Sterling, Coutinho, Lallana all have their efforts on goal before Skrtel has his shot blocked.
66th min: Ki Sung-Yueng comes on for Leon Britton.
63rd min: High on confidence, Lallana splits the Swansea defence for Sterling who has to contend with a rushing goalkeeper. Sterling rounds him, although with space at a premium, he shoots from an impossible angle. Williams was on hand to clear from the line if it was on target.
61st min: Bafetimbi Gomis comes on for Wilfried Bony.
61st min: GOAL! Coutinho deft flick takes two players out the equation and Lallana takes full advantage by cutting inside a defender and letting off an accurate left foot shot.
59th min: Lucas passes to Lallana who dribbles into Swansea's half and shoots with a low effort, although Fabianski makes it look easy.
58th min: Liverpool trying their hardest to restore a two goal lead. Coutinho intercepts Shelvey's lazy backpass and plays in Sterling. Sterling wants to return the ball instead of going for goal and ends up losing the ball on the edge of the box.
54th min: OOOHHH! So close. Liverpool breakdown the pitch from a Swansea attack and Sterling strikes the post from a Henderson cross. We've seen more action in 10 minutes than we did in the 1st half.
52nd min: GOAL! Liverpool just cannot defend can they? Skrtel and Sakho make a mess and Sigurdsson scoops up to score a tap in.
50th min: GOAL! Fabianksi clears the ball into Lallana and he scores the strangest goal of the season so far.
48th min: Martin Skrtel needlessly fouls Routledge on the left and picks up a yellow card - he'll miss the New Year's game vs Leicester City. From the free-kick, Bony gets a header on target but Mignolet saves it.
46th min: Sterling receives the ball and shoots immediately, though his shot goes into orbit.
45th min: Unsurprisingly, Jazz Richards is taken off for Angel Rangel - the youngster had been turned inside out by Moreno, Coutinho and Sterling on separate occasions.
Here are the 1st half stats as both teams enter the tunnel for a break:
Liverpool 47% - 53% Swansea City
Liverpool 9 - 3 Swansea City
Shots on Target
Liverpool 6 - 1 Swansea City
Liverpool 4 - 0 Swansea City
Liverpool 3 - 2 Swansea City
45th min: Liverpool have two chances to score from corners; Lallana mis-kicks the first effort and then Skrtel has his effort blocked as the referee blows for an end to the 1st half.
44th min: Coutinho turns to Swansea players at the centre circle and dribbles deep into the Swansea half. He lets one rip from 25 yards; the swerve and dip almost catches Fabianski off guard.
43rd min: Swansea City have Liverpool penned into their own half and threaten with a succession of crosses. None of them reach their intended target, Bony, and Liverpool escaped unharmed.
35th min: Coutinho twists and turns, leaving Jazz Richards on the floor and tries to catch Fabianksi at his near post but the goalkeeper is wise to his tricks.
33rd min: GOAL! Emre Can switches play to the left, Sakho plays in Moreno who cuts inside and make the pass to Lallana, who find Henderson wide on the right. Henderson crosses and Moreno is waiting inside the box for a tap-in. Beautiful build-up play and a great team goal.
31st min: Wilfried Bony gets on the ball and then hits a stinker of a shot way over the bar.
30th min: Sterling loses the ball and Swansea counter down the left, crossing for Dyer who leaps above Moreno, although his header is straight at Mignolet.
23rd min: Coutinho and Sterling are really building a budding relationship. In a mirror of the goal vs Burnley, Coutinho flicks the ball over his head for Sterling to race onto. Unfortunately, the forward was unable to get past the Swansea defender.
19th min: Sakho matches a horrible touch with a rushed and equally horrible cross field pass, luckily Emre Can is much more cultured with his touch and pass to keep Liverpool on the ball. Can isn't a centre back by trade but you can see why he is in the team today - by far Liverpool's most technical player in the back today.
16th min: Manquillo heads the ball down to Coutinho who worms his way into the box but shoots weakly at Fabianski.
12th min: Another well constructed play down the left sees Alberto Moreno cross the ball for Raheem Sterling who strikes on the volley but Fabianski saves well. The ball falls to Lallana who is on top of the penalty spot but isn't balanced and blasts over the bar.
10th min: Brilliant build up plays leads to Adam Lallana whipping in a cross that no one is unable to connect with.
5th min: Jordan Henderson's corner reaches Martin Skrtel at the far post and he forces Fabianski to make the 1st save of the game.
4th min: After midfield battle between Coutinho, Moreno, Shelvey and Dyer is won by Coutinho, the playmaker splits the Swansea left back and centre back to play Raheem Sterling down the channel. As he attempted to cut inside the box Taylor blocked him for a corner.
