Stoke have only won once in the last five but come into this came in decent form having beaten Arsenal and drawn with Crystal Palace. They have shown good form against the bigger sides this season as evidenced by victories against Tottenham and Manchester City, as well as narrow losses to Liverpool and Manchester United. They will need to perform to the same levels if they are to get anything against Chelsea.
Team sheets below:
70th min: Nzonzi passed the ball sideways to Charlie Adam who sliced the ball wide of the target. Perhaps should have done better as he was centre of the goal.
69th min: A clever bit of play from Stoke who were initially struggling to make headway, that is until Charlie Adam whipped in a left footed cross from deep and almost caught out Terry who was playing Walters onside. The was too high for Walters however and went out of play.
64th min: Walters cross on the right is charged down by Azpilicueta, taking a nasty deflection which winds up in Courtois hands.
62nd min: Peter Crouch's day has come to an end as Mame Biram Diouf comes on.
61st min: Willian's free-kick is deflected by Walters for a corner.
59th min: Eden Hazard creates a bit of space for himself on the right and crosses for Diego Costa, although the striker is not quite in place to finish the chance. Costa has been a bit off colour today.
52nd min: Erik Pieters is booked for hacking down Costa in the previous passage of play. It was a totally needless foul to give away.
51st min: Diego Costa battles hard from the middle of the pitch and passes to Willian who dribbles into the box on the right hand side. Faced with either taking a shot and crossing for Fabregas, he shoots and Begovic saves comfortably.
Stats from the 1st half:
Stoke 41% - 59% Chelsea
Stoke 3 - 5 Chelsea
Shots on Target
Stoke 1 - 3 Chelsea
Stoke 3 - 3 Chelsea
Stoke 4 - 2 Chelsea
Neil Swarsbrick has called for an end to the 1st half. After conceding in 1st minute from a Terry header, Stoke did their best to make it a scrappy affair and they have succeeded. Chelsea should be 2-0 up although, Diego Costa missing a guilt edged chance.
30th min: Will that miss be costly? Matic makes a tackle and give the ball to Fabregas. The playmaker runs and looks up to find Costa, Shawcross who was level with Costa misjudges his offside trap and leaves Costa on and one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Somehow, Costa misses the target by dragging his shot wide. Stoke let off there.
22nd min: The referee isn't going to be on Mourinho's Christmas list he is? A breakaway is on with Diego Costa and Fabregas free, but Neil Swarbrick gets in the way.
21st min: After a bit of argy-bargy involving Nzonzi and Matic, the corner is taken and Crouch has his header blocked. The attack isn't over as Bojan gets the ball into Walters, although his shot is too blocked. Resolute defending from Chelsea - though you would expect that from the Premier League's best defence.
20th min: This is better from Stoke: Steven Nzonzi runs with the ball in the middle of the pitch and hits a shot that deflects off John Terry - Courtois did well to make a save.
19th min: Eden Hazard breaks down the left wing and is scythed down by Phil Bardsley. Jose Mourinho is incensed as Bardsley is given a yellow - I think he felt a red was warranted.
13th min: Since the goal Stoke have done their best to stifle Chelsea with a bit of rough play. The referee is forced to stop proceedings as Diego Costa is clutching his back in the middle of the pitch.
12th min: Eden Hazard has been taken out by Phil Bardsley and Chelsea win a free kick.
7th min: Ivanovic pulls the ball back to Diego Costa who is on the edge of the box, although the striker drags his shot wide.
1st min: GOAL! Ivanovic had a shot blocked by Pieters for a corner. Fabregas put in the cross and who else but John Terry nods the Blues in front.
