Chelsea could not have wished for a better draw in the Champions League. Schalke, Sporting Lisbon and NK Maribor have been drawn against the Blues in Group H and it is a group that should allow Chelsea to focus on the Premier League, without giving up too much in the Champions League.
Although Schalke did just about manage to worm their way through to the last 16, they were battered by an aggregate score of 9-2 by Real Madrid.
Judging by the players Schalke brought over the summer, Chelsea will not be threatened by the Bundesliga outfit.
The last time Sporting Lisbon were in the Champions League was in 2009, where they got the last 16 stage, before being absolutely humiliated by Bayern Munich 12-1 on aggregate.
They have endured a mixed transfer window, selling many important first team players but also bringing in an established player in Nani and many up and coming players.
Nonetheless, the idea they could threaten Chelsea is remote.
The last time Maribor were in the Champions League was in 2000, were they got through to the second Group Stage (the then equivalent of today's last 16).
The best Maribor have achieved in recent years is a last 32 place in the Europa League and are generally expected to be the whipping boys of the group.
