Arsenal legend Tony Adams has challenged current star Jack Wilshere to prove his worth during the new season.
Wilshere has been under much scrutiny for his poor performances in the previous campaign, leading many figures within football claiming the England international has not progressed since he was a teenager.
Wilshere's antics off the field which include being caught smoking twice, has only strengthened those claims.
Adams, however, has refrained from criticising Wilshere, instead encouraging him to prove that he is the equal of Mesut Ozil.
"He should have taken it as a personal insult that Arsenal went out and signed Ozil when they already had the same talent at their disposal in him," Adams told The Sun.
"For me, Jack is as good a player but Ozil has just won the World Cup with Germany and achieved far more."
"He should certainly be in front of Santi Cazorla, Tomas Rosicky and Aaron Ramsey — and competing with Ozil," added Adams.
"Jack needs to make sure Arsene dares not drop him, just like Aaron Ramsey did last season with his performances."
